FAUST FAMILY TREE
A Faustian Theory of Relativity, so to speak...
genealogy of our family lines. If you think you might be related, please let us know!!!
We like nothing better than
meeting and exchanging information with new cousins. Reconnecting with cousins we've been
out of touch with is pretty neat, too. Note: If any living relative of ours finds your name on this site and has
any objection, please just let us know. Doug and
Diana Faust
Hans Faust
Hans Faust was born in 1611 in
Wolferborn, Germany and died 2 January 1679/80 in Langenselbold
Isenburg, Hessen,
Germany. He was the son of Johann Faust (1580-1639) and grandson of Hans
Faust (1550-1609).
Hans was married twice.
He married first Elizabeth Fischer on 2 March 1639/40 in
Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany. She was born 6 January 1619/20, the daughter of Anton
Fischer (b. abt. 1598 Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany, son of Balthasar Fischer) and Elizabeth
Scherer (b. 20 May 1589 Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany, daughter
of Peter Scherer and Ursula Bresch). Hans and Elizabeth Fischer had six children
that I know of: Maria Elizabeth, Werner, Johann, Giel
Julienne, Andreas, and Hans Faust II. For further
information on these children and their
spouses, see the program-generated genealogies (GedHTree, Family
Origins, and Progenitor) referenced above. It is
their third child, Johann Faust who was born in 1642, that
this genealogy follows. Elizabeth Fischer died in 1652 in
Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany, at the age of 33.
He
married 2nd Kunigunda Gaul and they had six children that I know of, including a son, Johann
Georg Faust who was born in Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany and
christened 23
January 1666.26 This son traveled to America on the same
ship, Elizabeth, that Johan Peter Faust arrive on at the Port of
Philadelphia, 27 August 1733.
Johann Faust
Johann Faust was born in March or
April 1642/43 in Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany. He married Kunigunda
Mohn on 4 January 1666/67 in Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany. She was born 7 May 1646, the
daughter of Hans Mohn and Anna Wilhelm. She died 29 October 1721.
Johann and Kunigunda had 11 children, the youngest of whom was Johann Peter
Faust, our direct ancestor.
Johann died before 4 September
1694 in Langenselbold. He
lived in Wolferborn, Hessen.
JOHANN PETER FAUST
Johann Peter Faust was born
22 December 1689 in Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany. He died in
November 1745 in Exeter Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married
twice; first to Magdalena Adam on 5 January 1711 (or 1712/13) in Langenselbold
Reformed KB. She was the daughter of Philip Adam and Anna Hix and she was
born 24 March 1692, according to church records. They had one child,
Philip Lebs Faust.
By 1717, we know, again according to church records,
that Johann was a widower and married Anna Elisabeth Grauel, his second wife, on 14 January
1717 in Langenselbold Reformed KB, Langenselbold, Germany. Anna
was the
daughter of Johannes Grauel and Helena Dieterich. They had six,
possibly seven
children together: Michael, Johann (John), Johannes, John C. Peter, Anna
Elizabeth, Magdalena, Johann Heinrich.
Johann (John) and Johannes may
be the same person. He married Anna Albright
[Albrecht] (born about 1719) in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania, in 1742. They had nine known children
together: Philip Faust (b. 1742, d. 1804), John Faust (b.
1744), Jacob Faust (b. 1749, d. 1796), Christian Faust (b. 1750,
d. 1823), Barbara Faust (b. 1752), Judith Faust (b. 1754, d.
1823), George Faust (b. 1746, d. 1778), Peter Faust (b. 1759, d.
1808), and Daniel Faust (b. 1762, d. 1826). Their
daughter Barbara married Jacob Clapp; they had a daughter Anna
Catherine Clapp. Anna Catherine Clapp married a Neese, and
they had a son Soloman Neese. Soloman Neese had a son
James Alvan Neese who had a daughter Malinda Lou Neese.
Malinda Neese married a Starr and had a son Lacy Monroe Starr;
he had a daughter Aylease Holt Starr who married a Bowman.
Aylease Starr had a son Jerry Homer Bowman who had a daughter
Toni Michele Bowman.22
Johann Peter Faust arrived in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 27 August 1733 aboard the ship Elizabeth,
which sailed from Rotterday. The ship master was Edward
Lee and all the immigrants aboard were from the Palatinate,
Germany. Johann took his oath of allegiance the same day
as his arrival, 25 August 1733.18
PHILIP LEBS FAUST
Philip Lebs Faust was born 22 February
1713/14 in Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany, the son of Johann Peter Faust and his
first wife Magdalena Adam. He died 19 April 1786 in Bern Township, Berks
County, Pennsylvania. He married Magdalena Albright (sometimes spelled Albrecht)
in 1736 in
Berks/Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Johannes
Ludwig Albrecht von Oberenstringer (born 1694 in Wyniger,
Switzerland) and Anna Barbara Gossauer
von Reisbach (born about 1697 in Switzerland or Germany). Magdalena was
born between 1716 and 1718 in Germany or Austria.
Issue of Philip Lebs Faust and Magdalena:
1. Elizabeth Faust was born January 1738 in Bern Township, Berks County,
Pennsylvania. She died
October 1807 in Center Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. She married Heinrich
Moll. He was born in 1734. They were both buried in St. John's Gernant's Union Church in Leesport, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Reformed (now UCC) and Lutheran congregations have worshiped there since 1794. Some say that Elizabeth and Heinrich Moll had a son Heinrich who married the
daughter of Johannes Faust and Anna Clara Schmeck, his first
cousin. Elizabeth Faust died in October 1807.
2. Johannes George Faust was born 3 March 1738/39 in Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He died 6 May
1792 in Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He is buried in Salem Church Cemetery near
Dauberville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married
Anna Clara Smeck (Schmeck). She was born 24 September 1739
and died 23 December 1815. Some claim that this couple had a daughter,
Maria Elizabeth Faust who married her first cousin, Heinrich Moll, son of
Elizabeth Faust and Heinrich Moll. I cannot substantiate this.
3. Maria Catherina Faust, b. 23 June 1747 in Bern Township, Berks County, PA. She died in 1803
in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Catherina was baptized 5 April 1752 in Bern Church, Berks
County, Pennsylvania. She married Peter Kerschner. He is buried in Bern Union Church, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
4. Philip Faust was born in 1748 in Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He died 4 September 1831 in
East Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He married Susanna Moyer.
5. Anna
Christina Faust was born in Bern Township, Berks County,
Pennsylvania, about 1750. She married Henry Fisher.
6. Catherine Elizabeth Faust was born 5 April 1752, in Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. She died
in Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. She married Peter Mohn.
7. Jacob Faust was born 25 December 1757 in Bern Township,
Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Kieffer 22 October 1782
in Berks County, Pennsylvania. His
family is covered in a separate section of this web site; it is his line
that this genealogy follows.
8. Ludwig Faust was born 12 January 1760 in Bern
Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married Hannah Kieffer
in 1782, the same year his brother Jacob married Hannah's sister
Elizabeth. His family is covered in a separate section of
this web site.
