FAUST FAMILY TREE
JACOB
FAUST
Revolutionary War Soldier
son (7th child)
of Philip Lebs Faust
and Magdalena Albright

Jacob Faust was born 25 December 1757 in Bern Township, Berks
County, Pennsylvania. He died 27 July 1834 in Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County,
Pennsylvania.
Before the Revolutionary War he owned land in Bern Township, Berks County. During the war
he owned 50 acres of wood land in Pine Grove Township. He served in the Revolutionary War
in Captain Ladich's Rangers of the Frontier between 1778 and 1787. He also served in
Captain Emrich's Bethel Township Company. |

In 1782, on 22
October, he married Elizabeth Kieffer
in Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Jacob's
brother Ludwig married Elizabeth's sister Hannah the same year.
Elizabeth was born
3 July 1761, daughter of Johan
Nicholas Kieffer (b. 12 Nov. 1734 in Wendel, Germany) and M.
Veronica Fronita Steinbruenner (b. 1734 in Zweibrucken, Pfaltz,
Germany). (Like her
sister Hannah Kieffer who married Jacob's brother Ludwig, her
birth date lacks clarity; I have also seen it given as 2 June
1760. Additional research on the Kieffer family is
needed.) Elizabeth died 20 May 1841 in Schuylkill County,
Pennsylvania.
In 1785 Jacob purchased the land in Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County, on which the
well-known old Faust homestead is located, 1/4 mile north of Zion's Red Church near
Orwigsburg. This land consisted of about 380 acres and remained in the Faust family until
1930 --almost 150 years, which is something of a record in this country for land to be
held by one family. In 1833 Jacob sold his farm to his son Daniel. On the same day Daniel
sold half to his brother Jacob, Jr.
Jacob and Elizabeth are buried in the cemetery of Zion's Red Church at Orwigsburg,
Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania near the arched entryway on two acres that Jacob donated
to the German Reformed Congregation.12 Two years before his death the congregation of the
Christ Reformed Church merged with the members of Zion's Old Red Church and the cemetery
serves both congregations. Their tombstone inscriptions are in German.
